Advocacy

Our campaigns

Achieving full-time, “no-spray” buffer zones of at least one mile around schools.
  • We have succeeded in getting the state to commit to quarter-mile buffer zones around public schools and day cares in which the most drift prone pesticides cannot be applied from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Implementing community-wide notification systems to warn residents of pesticide applications before they occur.
  • Monterey Pilot Notification Project
Phasing out the most health-harming chemicals from use in schools and in surrounding agriculture.
  • Chlorpyrifos
  • Roundup (Glyphosate)

Pesticide exposure in Monterey, CAlifornia

Each year, upwards of 21 million farmworkers are exposed to pesticides yearly. Due high levels of agricultural production in Monterey, the farmworkers of California are at high risk of pesticide exposure and drift events. However, it does not stop in the fields; children attending schools near the fields are also frequently plagued with pesticide exposure. Learn about the issue of pesticide exposure with our animated infographic.
